Our Moving and Handling (People) Course is the only one day course in the UK for front-line carers to achieve RCOT Approved Learning Award status & has been updated to reflect guidance in Handling of People 6th Edition (HOP6) (2011) / Manual Handling of Children (2011) & Moving & Handling of Plus Size People (2013) & will be further updated when HOP7 is published (eventually!!)

What will you learn?
We will give an overview of the law, common injuries, risk assessment and controversial techniques- but the majority of your time will be spent developing the principles of safer handling to ensure your safety and that of your client /service user/ resident.
Taken from the Handling of People 5th & 6th Edition published by BackCare & Updated in line with the Back Exchange Professional Publications Series Vol 2 & 3, we deliver a 5-6hr course on our premises or yours & we can tailor the course to meet your needs.
We will normally cover
Promoting Independence and normal movement, Assist to Stand, including standing aids, Assist to sit, support whilst walking, lateral transfers, Bed work-including In and out of bed, movement up and down the bed, turning in bed- client independence-bed blocks, rope ladders etc and use of slide sheets, Hoist work -choosing a hoist and sling, bed to chair and chair to chair transfers, hoisting from the floor, falls prevention, wheelchair safety- you may even get to ride our camel!
The course can be tailored to meet the needs of an individual in their own home , and we deliver loads of training in schools where we focus on the needs of children with disabilities and their teachers, classroom assistants & support workers-this is normally delivered as a half -day session with twilight slots available to minimise disruption in school!

Moving and Handling(Objects) 5-6hrs
A mix of theory and practical training- made bespoke to your business wherever possible by using the objects your staff lift in the workplace- can be a bespoke certificate- or a Highfield Level 2 Award as appropriate- please call to discuss
Moving and Handling Refresher(People or Objects) 2-3hrs
As above but a short refresher course for those who have already passed our full course- we recommend refresher training every 12 months
We can deliver anything from a 3 hour update to a 4 day fully comprehensive course for Occupational Therapists- if you need any more information on Moving & Handling courses-please ask!

If you don't have enough learners to book a course on your premises (8+) you can attend one of our open courses or if you have 8+ learners but no space at your premises-you can use ours free of charge
